Doune Castle is a medieval stronghold located near the village of Doune in Scotland. The castle is also one of the most famous castles in Scotland as a film location in more recent times for the Game of Thrones and Outlander television series. The castle itself was built as the home of Regent Albany regarded as “Scotland’s uncrowned King”. Take a look at the medieval courtyard castle to see his rich tastes. The castle itself is sited on a wooded bend where the Ardoch Burn flows into the River Forth. The place served as a retreat and hunting lodge for the Scottish monarchy for centuries. The castle was originally built in the 13th century and was damaged on in the Scottish Wars of Independence before being rebuilt in the 14th century.
