Glasgow

Glasgow is a port city on the River Clyde located on Scotland’s western lowlands. It is extremely popular to visit for its art nouveau architecture. The history behind this is that it has a rich legacy during the 18th and 20th century due to the trade and shipbuilding industry. Glasgow progressed from a small rural settlement on the River Clyde and it progressed to be one of the biggest ports in Scotland. Glasgow was regarded as the “Second City of the British Empire” for much of the Victorian and Edwardian period. During the 18th century Glasgow became one of Great Britain’s main hub of transatlantic trade with North America and West Indies. Present day Glasgow it is a mecca for the arts and is a national cultural city. Some of the cultural hubs that are located in Glasgow are the Scottish Opera, Sottish Ballet and National Theatre of Scotland. In addition to this there is an excellent array of museums and a vibrant music scene. Local inhabitants are known as “Glaswegians” and are known to have a distinct dialect known as the Glasgow patter.
