Jacobite Steam Train

The Jacobite Steam train journey can be described as the greatest railway journey in the world. It takes you from Fort William to Mallaig and it is an 84 mile round trip taking in some of the most breath taking views in Scotland. The tour starts in Fort William near Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Britain. It continues to visit Britain’s most westerly mainland railway station Arisaig. Some other spectacular places that it passes by is the deepest freshwater loch in Britain, Loch Morar and River Morar, which is the shortest river in Britain. At the end of this amazing journey, the deepest seawater loch in Europe awaits you, Loch Nevis. The great thing about train excursions is that they give you the chance to relax, unwind and give you unrivalled views of the landscape. The train will have a few stops along the way including Fort William, Glenfinnan, Arisaig and Mallaig and promises not to disappoint.

The same route is also seen on the Harry Potter Films. The company that runs the Jacobite service gave Warner Brothers the train that was used as the ‘Hogwarts Express’ in all the films and also gave them permission to use the Jacobite’s route for the film. The GWR 4900 Class 5972 Olton Hall was the locomotive that was used in the films to pull the famous Hogwarts Express and this can be seen today at the Warner Brother’s Studio Tour in London.
