St Andrew's Town

St Andrews is a town located on the east coast of Fife in Scotland. It is situated 16km southeast of Dundee and 50km northeast of Edinburgh. The University of St Andrews can be found here and the University is the third oldest university in the English speaking world and it is the oldest in Scotland. In terms of rankings it is ranked as the second best university in the United Kingdom. The town itself derives its name from Saint Andrew the Apostle. The town is extremely popular for golf and it is regarded as the “home of golf”. The reasons being for this title is The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews which was founded in 1754 and it is also where the Old Course of St Andrews Links is located in the heart of the town and is one of the regular host venues of The Open Championship which is the oldest of golf’s four major championships. Visitors come to St Andrews in vast numbers for its history, culture, heritage and many sandy beaches and surrounding golf courses that surround the coastline. St Andrews also offers several museums, an aquarium and a botanic garden.
